skin peels

The skin peel is one of the most recognised methods of improving skin health, it dates back to Ancient Egypt where ancient Egyptians used lactic acid within sour milk as an active chemical agent for exfoliation. Skin Peeling or RESURFACING as I prefer to call it (as you don't always actually peel) is fantastic as a one-off treat for brightening and decongesting the skin OR as part of a series for a corrective programme to address skin concerns ranging from hyperpigmentation, acne, lines and wrinkles, uneven skin texture, congestion, dullness and even Rosacea! A Skin peel is a broad term used to describe a solution that is applied to the skin to stimulate the renewal process, resurface the outermost layer of the skin (the upper epidermis) and help stimulate collagen production in the the middle layer of the skin (the dermis). At Waves Skin Therapy we use a variety of enzyme, biological and chemical based peels as part of our Enhanced and Advanced Bespoke Treatments.

Clinical grade superficial peels remove the upper layer of the epidermis encouraging regeneration and rejuvenation of new skin cells. Biological peels penetrate the skin and work in the lower layers of the epidermis to encourage the skin to resurface. The benefits of a skin peel can vary depending on the type of peel used. The procedure isn’t painful but you may feel tingling or that your face feels hot for around 3-6 minutes after application. A course of peels may be recommended for certain skin conditions and the strength of your peel may be increased over time as your skin integrity improves.

client information

  • Following the treatment the skin may display mild redness, peeling, dryness, irritation & tightness. This is perfectly normal and to be expected, and will feel totally normal again within a few hours and most people are able to return to their normal activities the same or next day. However everyone skin reacts differently and therefore some people may experience these reactions for longer, but they are temporary & the skin will typically return to normal after 3-7 days.

  • Preparing for Treatment

If your skin is unhealthy - the barrier is impaired, dry, flaky and overall struggling to heal and maintain itself, then skin peels will damage your skin further. Therefore it is vital that prior to skin peels we work with you to rebuild and strengthen your skin to ensure the best possible results.

Skin peels can be performed on almost anyone however, we do adhere to strict health and safety protocols and this means we require you to undergo an in-depth consultation and be using prescribed home care products prior to either our Enhanced or Advanced Bespoke Skin Treatments.

This ensures that there are no contraindications we need to overcome and that your skin is healthy and ready to undergo this advanced treatment.

We will not perform skin peels on you ‘just because we can’. We want to make sure the treatment is right for you and can be performed safely and effectively.
